In today’s world, we are surrounded by news, social media, and information from many sources. It’s important for people of all ages to learn how to understand and think about what they see and hear. This is called media literacy. Around the world, schools, organizations, and governments are working to help people become smarter media users. At the same time, some groups are helping to make sure that everyone has equal access to the internet and digital tools, which is known as closing the digital divide. In the United States, one group working on this is the News Literacy Project. They have an online program called Checkology that teaches students how to tell the difference between real news and fake news. They also help teachers and older adults learn how to understand media better. In the United Kingdom, the Guardian Foundation is encouraging schools to teach media literacy in classrooms.
